Capital Community Celebration is June 9 Gov. Mike Rounds has announced that state and local representatives are gearing up to bring the Pierre/Ft. Pierre community together again for the annual Capital Community Celebration on the Capitol grounds on Wednesday, June 9, from 5 to 8 p.m.
This year's theme of Family Fun with Food, Fitness, Fishing and Frisbees will get underway when business and government employees pair up for a golf tournament at Hillsview Golf Course in Pierre.
The Department of Health is challenging state agencies and Pierre/Ft. Pierre businesses and employees to log leisure time physical activity from May 8-31. The team logging the highest average number of minutes per member will be awarded the "Fitness Challenge" traveling trophy and individual certificates during the celebration.
The Department of Health will sponsor its annual S.D. Mile Walk at 5 p.m. Area residents of all ages are encouraged to take part in the walk/run around the Capitol Complex to receive a 2004 commemorative pin.
Free hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, pop and dessert will be available beginning at 5:15 p.m., and a variety of talents will be performing during the celebration.
In addition, this year, Game, Fish and Parks will be offering a children's fishing program.
