Celebrate Alexis Layne Vermillion second-graders took part in a special Arbor Day ceremony Friday, filled with songs, poetry, and the planting of a new tree at The Bluffs Golf Course. Alexis Layne, at right, raises her arms as she and her classmates sing about the new life of a growing tree. Mayor Roger Kozak also spoke to the students, and showed them pictures of a tree he planted in his back yard. The ceremony ended with each student placing a shovel-full of dirt around the freshly-planted tree. Louie Fostvedt holds the tree a Prairie Fire crab apple as Keren Kabambi and Matt Szymonski add dirt to its roots.
