Dakota Valley falls to Tanagers in BB 'laugher' by Jim Prosser Taking advantage of four Dakota Valley Panther pitchers, who suffered through eight team errors, 13 bases on balls, and four hit batters, the Tanagers overpowered the visitors 22-3 in a high school baseball encounter at Prentis Park in Vermillion last Tuesday, May 4.
Everybody got into the act for the home team, including the reserves! The offense was impressive as they produced 12 hits in 26 at bats and every starter but one scored runs (several had two and some as many as three in the five-inning shortened mercy ending).
Leading the offensive barrage: Collin Prosser on base three times, two hits, two runs, three RBIs; and his replacement at first base, Alan Bos two hits with two RBIs; Ben Oberle on base three times, scored three runs; JV's Bobby Dykstra one run; Jared Burcham 2 for 3, two runs; reserve John Gregg one hit, one run; Kyle Mollet 1 for 2, three runs, two RBIs; Ryan Gilbertson (JV) a walk and a run scored; B.J. Campbell two BBs, two runs; reserve Zach Weiss two walks, one run; Jordan Anderson 2 for 2, two runs, two RBIs; replacement Brandon Hanson one RBI; Sam Laprath 1 for 3, two runs, two RBIs; and Jason Donald 1 for 2, two runs, one RBI.
Brad Schaack was the winning pitcher going the route giving up three runs (two unearned) on six hits, no walks, and two Ks. He was supported by some excellent defensive efforts (in spite of five errors three on one play!) which put a blotch on an otherwise super pitching victory.
Line scores: VHS 22 runs, 12 hits, 5 errors, 10 lob; DVHS 3 runs, 6 hits, 8 errors, 4 lob.
Season record is now 5-8.
