DOT offers mowing opportunities The South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT) is working to give farmers and ranchers a little relief during the drought season. The department is offering landowners the opportunity to mow the top 15 along the state's highway ditches before SDDOT crews begin the job.
The SDDOT crews plan to start mowing along all state highways south of SD 44 and east of SD 37 on June 1, or when the vegetation along the shoulder reaches approximately 12 inches in height. Anyone wishing to get out ahead of SDDOT should finish prior to that date. Landowners have preference for mowing the state's highway ditches. Non-landowners will need to get permission from the adjacent landowner. All hay must be removed promptly.
SDDOT reminds landowners this first cut includes only the top 15 foot cut. Mowing the rest of the right-of-way can begin after July 10. Contact SDDOT's Yankton Area office at (605) 668-2929, Ext. 15 for more information.
