FCS America expands scholarship program Farm Credit Services of America (FCSAmerica) announced changes to its scholarship program for college students preparing for careers in agriculture.
Beginning with the 2004-2005 academic year, FCSAmerica will award 12 scholarships of $2,000 each to juniors or seniors studying agriculture at land grant universities in Iowa, Nebraska, South Dakota and Wyoming.
Increasing the number of scholarships from six to 12 and the scholarship award amounts from $1,000 to $2,000 will assist a number of youth with the rising cost of education.
"Farm Credit Services of America is committed to helping secure a strong future for the next generation of leaders in agriculture," says Bob Schmidt, senior vice president. "We want today's youth to recognize the career opportunities in agriculture. Our scholarship program and the enhancements we have made to it are just a few of the many ways we demonstration our commitment to the industry."
A student interested in applying for an FCSAmerica scholarship must be a college junior or senior with a minimum grade point average of 3.0. He or she must also be enrolled in the College of Agriculture with course work emphasis in agribusiness or economics, or enrolled in the College of Business Administration with course work emphasis in agribusiness, finance, accounting or economics at Iowa State University, University of Nebraska at Lincoln, South Dakota State University or University of Wyoming.
Qualifying applicants must also be residents of Iowa, Nebraska, South Dakota or Wyoming and have an agricultural background or work related experience in agriculture.
