Girls' soccer teams successful on the road Both the U-16 and the U-19 Vermillion girls' soccer teams were in action on the road this past weekend. The U-16 team traveled to Mitchell on Saturday, and the U-19 team journeyed to Brookings on Sunday.
Playing Watertown in the first game Saturday, the U-16 team earned a 3-2 victory on the strength of three goals by Emma Erickson. Vermillion then followed up with a 3-0 defeat of Mitchell, with goals being scored by Amy Mart, Margaret Mueller, and Erickson. Michelle Olson tended goal the entire two matches for Vermillion.
In Brookings on Sunday, the U-19 team faced a tough Brookings U-16 team in very windy conditions. Vermillion and Brookings played to a 3-3 draw with goals scored by Carly Bernard, Kat Redlin, and Sarah Christopherson.
Facing the Brookings U-19 team in the second game, Vermillion took control of the midfield and held the opposition scoreless en route to a 2-0 victory. Goals were scored by Brooke Niles, and guest player Margaret Mueller. Redlin and Christopherson shared goalkeeping duties on the day.
The outings were encouraging for both teams, with each demonstrating the ability to score goals. The two teams will be working to tighten up their defensive play as they prepare for the State Tide Cup Tournament in Sioux Falls June 5-7.
