Girls State, Boys State orientation held

Girls State, Boys State orientation held On May 2, the American Legion and Auxiliary hosted an orientation event at the Senior Citizens Center in Vermillion for high school juniors who will be attending Boys State and Girls State. They were from Vermillion and eight other towns. There were also many parents and guests present.

Boys State will be held on the campus of Northern State in Aberdeen. Girls State will be held on the USD campus in Vermillion. Both sessions will be held May 31-June 4.

Carl Carlson and Ray Hofman presented the colors. Evelyn Hermanson gave the opening prayer. Bud Marshall led the group in giving the pledge to the flag. This was followed by soloist Erin Austin accompanied by Larinda Collette providing special music.

In separate sessions the delegates were given detailed information about what to expect and what is expected of them during their time at Boys State and Girls State.

This was followed by a social hour with refreshments served by the Vermillion American Legion Auxiliary.

One-hundred-forty registered delegates, parents and guests from Irene, Volin, Gayville, Tabor, Tyndall, Alsen, Springfield and Vermillion attended.
