Memorial Day services May 31 in Vermillion Vermillion will honor its war dead with special Memorial Day services on Monday, May 31 at 10 a.m. at the Clay County Veterans Memorial, located on the grounds of the Clay County Courthouse.
Andy Howe, commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, will give the introduction. Darrel Christopherson will lead the Pledge of Allegiance. The invocation will be given by Wilbur Tiahrt.
General John Logan's Orders will be read by Art Mabry and the guest speaker is Lt. Col. Ruth Christopherson of the 114th Fighter Wing of the South Dakota Air National Guard, Sioux Falls.
Leonard Bottolfson will give the honor roll call.
Wreaths will be placed by Norm Herren, American Legion; Marj Christenson, American Legion Auxiliary; Liz Fiedler, VFW Auxiliary; and Jerry Schafer, VFW Post #3061. president, and Leo Powell.
Carla Gonyo will sing The Star Spangled Banner, followed by the benediction given by Tiahrt.
The VFW firing squad � Leroy Backhaus, Leonard Bottolfson, Darrel Christopherson, Andy Howe, Art Mabry, Leo Powell, Jeffrey Schafer and Bob Westman � will present the salute to honor the dead.
