Scholarship program announced The 2004 scholarship program has been announced by the South Dakota Association of Towns and Townships. Cindy Foster, chairman of the Scholarship Committee, said, "We as an organization of local elected officials think it is important to provide opportunity for the high school seniors in South Dakota to participate in as many scholarship programs as possible. It is important to provide assistance to our young people who decide to continue their education in South Dakota and this scholarship will help a young man or woman with their continuing education."
Applicants will be asked to write an essay on "My Responsibility to be an Informed Voter." The program is designed for those graduating seniors who are students in South Dakota high schools or are home schooled and will be attending post secondary education in South Dakota. The scholarship can be used at any university, college, or technical school in South Dakota.
The winner will be announced this fall. However, the actual scholarship money will be paid to the financial office of the chosen school in the fall of 2005.
"We have decided to pay the scholarship dollars for the first semester of the second year of study," Foster said.
Seniors graduating in 2004 are eligible and may obtain application forms by calling the SDATAT office, 605-353-1439. The winner will be announced at the SDATAT annual meeting in December in Huron. The scholarship amount is $1,000. Deadline for application is July 31.
