Tanager girls' golf team earns conference crown by Jim Prosser The Tanager girls' golf team won the Big Eight conference tournament Friday, May 7 vs. Lennox, Madison, and West Central for their annual competition. The play took place at The Buffs Golf Course in Vermillion.
The VHS girls placed first with a 386, while Lennox took second with 397, West Central was third at 409, and Madison placed fourth with a 430 for the
varsity phase of the tournament.
Capturing medalist honors was the Tanagers' Jackie Thomas with an 85, nine strokes better than the next four ladies in the 18-hole match.
Other Tanager scoring results were: Anna Isaacson � 97, Chelsea Gauer � 99, Sarah Christopherson � 105, and Sara
Mayer � 111. Every member of the team was in the top 15.
The JV tournament matches involved all four teams also. Vermillion swept the conference, scoring 463. West Central scored 487; Lennox 492; and Madison 513.
VHS JV scoring and individual places were: Lauren Higgins � 102 (medalist), Paige Prosser � 106 (second), Kelsey Osborne � 133, and Clare Bucklin � 153.
Coach Kirk Hogen was happy to have the win but still looks for improvement in course management as they plan for the next competition against the Yankton Gazelles at The Bluffs on Friday, May 14.
