Tanager tennis team wins dual vs. S.C. East 9-0 by Jim Prosser The Tanagers won their first home match played Tuesday, May 4 at the USD tennis courts near the DakotaDome, as they dominated the Sioux City East Raiders 9 – 0.

Singles: Jack Higgins (V) def. Eric Peterson (E) 6-1, 6-3; Geng Wang (V) def. Dan Kirwan (E) 6-2, 6-2; Dan Day (V) def. Dan Miller (E) 6-2, 6-4; Nathan Scheidel (V) def. Ryan Sheehan (E) 6-1, 6-1; Steve Foltz (V) def. Kyle Carlson (E) 6-0, 6-2; Keshiv Arogyoswamy (V) def. Jordyn Hamman (E) 6-4, 6-1.

Doubles: Higgins/Wang def. Peterson/Kirwan 6-4, 4-6, 7-5; 6-1, 7-5; Day/Scheidel def. Miller/Sheehan 7-6 (7-4), 6-1; and Arogyoswamy/Harsh Patel def. Carlson/Hamman 7-6 (7-5), 6-0.

"The individuals on the team played the way they are capable of," said coach Tim Hedblom. "Their ability to play the game showed through today. Everyone played very well."

The JV team members also won their matches, 5-1.

Singles: Eric Hesla (V) lost to Jack Furlet (E) 8-5; Anthony Rath (V) def. Brian Cunningham (E) 8-1; Chris Jensen (V) def. Will Marr (E) 8-1; Colin Eilts (V) def. Dan Yap (E) 8-2.

Doubles: Hesla/Rath def. Farlet/Cunningham 8-3; and Jensen/Eilts def. Marr/Yap 8-3.

"These youngsters played very well as each boy demonstrated his potential with his play," the coach said.
