Tanagers suffer second BB loss to West Central by Jim Prosser On Sunday, May 9, the Tanagers fell to the West Central Trojans for the second time in two weeks at the game played in Humbolt.
The weather was ideal, except for a 30 to 40 mph wind which seemed to affect some of the fielders. The gusts led to a couple of wind-aided hits and five errors early in the game, resulting in a five-run first inning, and an eight-run second, pretty much dooming the Tanagers to a loss.
Brad Schaack started, but after giving up four hits and 13 runs, two hit batters, and four BBs, was lifted after 1 2/3 innings. B.J. Campbell pitched the final 3 1/3 innings giving up three walks, one hit and registering two Ks, but no runs.
The team's offense accumulated two runs on four hits but that was it!
Line scores: Vermillion 2 runs, 4 hits, 5 errors, 3 lob; Trojans 13 runs, 10 hits, 1 error, 4 lob.
Tanager offensive stats: Ben Oberle 1 for 3 batting, 1 run; B.J. Campbell 1 for 2, 2 RBIs; and Zach Weiss 1 for 1, 1 run.
The varsity season record falls to 5.10.
