Tanagers win 6-4 over Canton in baseball by Jim Prosser Since the grandstand in Prentis Park is being torn down, the Tanager baseball game was moved to Canton on Tuesday, May 11.
The wind was gusting and the infield dirt and gravel were often being swept over the ball park but the play went on.
It looked pretty bleak for the Tanagers as the C-Hawks jumped on Ben Oberle's pitches for four runs on four hits in the first inning. Oberle survived the onslaught for two more innings, surrendering one more hit before he was replaced by Brad Schaack who went the rest of the game, giving up two hits while regitering six Ks, holding the home team scoreless.
Meanwhile, the Tanagers suffered through a five-inning "0-er" (one runner on by a hit). Then an amazing occurance two singles by the bottom of the order sparked a run bonanza. With the aid of an error to leadoff man Oberle, Jared Burcham smashed a two-run double driving in the previous htters.
Kyle Mollet followed with a sac fly, and B.J. Campbell singled driving in the tying run. Collin Prosser got on with a single, and Jordan Anderson sent a line drive screamer past the shortstop, driving in Campbell and Prosser.
That concluded an exciting 6-4 victory as Schaack closed out the final inning by forcing a double play to end the adventure.
Line score: Tanagers 6 runs, 7 hits, 0 errors, 1 lob; C-Hawks 4 runs, 7 hits, 2 errors, 5 lob.
