VHS baseball team has third win at Canton

VHS baseball team has third win at Canton by Jim Prosser It wasn't pretty, but it was really exciting, as the Tanager baseball team won both ends of a double header in Canton on Monday, April 26, in a JV/varsity competition.

In the varsity contest, Kyle Mollet spent the entire game in a precarious situation as he had base runners on in every inning but one, and closed out each of six innings with a strikeout as he protected an early three-run advantage. His pitching stint included eight hits, six bases on balls, and 14 Ks, giving up one unearned run in the process.

A couple late inning errors were the only mars for the defense as they forced 10 runners to be left on base during the first five innings.

Leading the offense was B.J. Campbell with 2 for 3 batting, scoring one, and having two rbis. Collin Prosser was credited with an rbi, and Ben Oberle scored a run on 2 for 3 at bats. Kyle Mollet aided his cause with 1 for 2 batting and a run scored. Ryan Mockler had two base hits during three at bats.

Line score: Tanagers 3 runs, 6 hits, 2 errors, 8 lob; C-Hawks 1 run, 8 hits, 2 errors, 12 lob.

Season record becomes 3-7.

The JV game brought a victory over the C-Hawks as Prosser pitched three innings, allowing no hits, but two runs (one unearned) that included six strikeouts and four walks. He was relieved by Bobby Dykstra who finished the game registering one hit, two walks, and two Ks.

The offense contributed eight hits, and two hit batters, plus four walks that aided the Tanagers, as seven runners crossed the plate, led by Zach Weiss who was on base three times and scored three runs on 1 for 2 batting.

Jeff Donnelly scored two runs and had one rbi as he was on base twice, going 1 for 2. Dykstra reached base twice, driving in two runs. John Gregg was 1 for 3 with a run scored; and Alan Bos went 2 for 2 with an rbi. Paul Hammond had two hits and drove in a run; and Matt Stange scored a run.

Line scores: VHS JV 7 runs, 8 hits, 1 error, 5 lob; Canton 2 runs, 1 hit, 2 errors, 8 lob.

The JV team has won two games so far this season.
