VHS Booster Club hosts girls' qualifier meet by Jim Prosser The Tanager girls' track team scored 146.5 points to take first place at the VHS Booster Club Qualifier on Saturday, May 8.
Dakota Valley placed second (133.5) and Scotland was third (101). The other teams invited to the meet were: Bon Homme, Akron-Westfield, Elk Point-Jefferson, and Tri-Valley.
Tanager scorers in field events were: Jacque Smidt � fifth in shot put; Annie Carlson � second in high jump, first in long jump (16'3.5"), and first in triple jump (34'8"); Annie Roche � third in long jump, and sixth in triple jump.
Kinsey Weydert finished third in the 300m hurdles.
For the dashes: 100m � Nicki Nelson, third; Ariel Hofman, fourth. 200m � finishing second, fourth, and sixth, Alexa Walker, Brittney Gilkyson, and Ariel Hofman, in that order. 400m � Brittany Babb won (1:03.5); Gilkyson placed third.
Distance runs: 1600m � Emily Renner won (5:35.4) qualifying for state; Sarah Plate and Theresa Ring were third and fourth. 3200m � Katarina Gombocz came in first (12:17).
Relays: 4×100 � second (Nelson, Walker, Weydert, and Hofman); 4x200m � first, state qualifier, 1:49.5 (Nelson, Heather Heine, Roche, and Brown); 4×400 � first, 4:29.5 (Heine, Babb, Morgan Brooks, and Walker); medley � second (Nelson, Roche, Heine, and Brooks).
