VHS computer team places first The Vermillion High School computer programming team placed first in the small school division of the 24th annual University of South Dakota High School Programming Contest. Members were Dan Day, son of David and Lynne Day, and Ben Schimelfening, son of James and Teresa Schimelfening. The team advisor was Curt Cameron.
The contest is designed to recognize and reward high school students who excel in computer programming Over 25 teams from high schools in South Dakota, Iowa, and Nebraska participated in the contest April 1.
Each team was given four hours to solve as many programming problems as they could. Teams wrote and tested their program solutions on personal computers attached to USD's high speed network system. All problem solutions were submitted and scored over the network.
