Wakonda golfers have busy season by Amber Skjonsberg The sun is shining and the grass is green, so it must mean time for golf!
The golf season started off with the SESD Invite where junior Alex Nelsen led the Wakonda team with an 87. Classmate Tyler Moser followed with a score of 105. Nick Peterson scored 117.
On April 6, at Dakota Valley, Nielsen had the top score for Wakonda's team with an 82. Ashley Anderson led the girls' golf team with a score of 124.
Again, leader Alex Nielsen took third place with a 77 at the Freeman meet. Tyler Moser, Nick Peterson, and Andy Ganschow also golfed but did not place. Brittany Rederick took fifth for the girls with a 118.
Winning first place was Nielsen with a 36 at the Glenridge meet. Ashley Anderson placed fourth with a 56, followed by Brittany Rederick in fifth place with a 59.
At the Glenridge Invite, Nielsen placed second with a 39. Tyler Moser won fourth place with a 42. For the JV boys, Patrick Morrison scored a 59, followed closely by Brian Steffen with a 60.
Winning first place at the Par Mar Marion Invite was junior Nielsen with a total score of 75. Winning seventh place for the girls was Brittany Rederick with a 127.
Leading the Wakonda players at the West Central golf meet was Nielsen with a 90. Tyler Moser followed with a 104.
At the Yankton Meet Nielsen placed second with a score of 78. Moser followed with a 108 and Nick Peterson golfed a 111.
Receiving first place at the Freeman Meet was Nielsen with a score of 75.
Alex Nielsen participated in the Boys' State B golf meet in Hartford on Monday and Tuesday, May 24-25. He finished with a 166 for the meet.
