Gearman to participate track, field championships Derek Gearman, a freshman on the South Dakota men's track and field team, will participate in two events at the 2004 USA Junior Outdoor Track and Field Championships on June 25-27 at the Frank G. Anderson Track and Field Complex at Texas A&M University in College Station, TX.
Gearman, a native of Lennox, qualified in both the high jump and triple jump, and just missed qualifying in the long jump. At the Kansas Relays, Gearman had a 49'4" in the triple jump, and he high jumped 6'11" at the Adidas Classic at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln this spring. Gearman just missed qualifying in the long jump.
His personal best in the long jump was a 23'8" performance at the North Central Conference Meet this spring. The standard in the long jump for the USA Junior Championships is 23'10".
The USA Junior Championships primarily include college freshmen and high school student-athletes. To compete, all participants must be under 20 years of age during 2004.
