Lewis & Clark Classic results noted for first day by Jim Prosser The results of the first day of competition in the Lewis & Clark Wooden Bat Classic Division had Sioux falls West and Papillion with 2-0 records, Yankton Post #12, Lennox, Spearfish, Omaha Bryan and Norfolk at 1-1 each, Valley Springs and Vermilion each at 0-2.
Scores at Yankton: Yankton def. Norfolk 1-0; Spearfish def. Valley Springs 13-0; Sioux Falls West def. Spearfish 12-3; Sioux Falls West def. Omaha Bryan 6-2; Omaha Bryan def. Yankton 2-0.
Scores at Vermillion: Blair def. Vermillion 6-0; Lennox def. Blair 6-1; Norfolk def. Lennox 5-0; Papillion def. Valley Springs 3-1; Papillion def. Vermillion 10-1.
In the fist game of the tourney, Post #1 had a tough time against Blair, NE, as they were held to three hits by Kirby Mintkev who also registered 10 Ks. The visitors scored once in the first and five runs in the third and that was the ball game.
Brad Schaack was victimized by some careless play by the team as they committed seven errors in the game. H e only gave up four hits and struck out seven Blair batters.
The offense consisted of singles by Ben Oberle, Jordan Anderson and Ryan Mockler.
The fifth and final game of the day at Prentis Park belonged to Papillion as Ryan Kevas made winning easy by allowing one hit in the six-inning, 11-0 whitewash of Post #1.
Vermillion at least committed no errors as Papillion racked up 15 hits against two pitchers � Eric Chase and B.J./ Campbell. The one hit was recorded by Ben Oberle (a double) and he scored on a fielder's choice.
