Roetman receives scholarship Sarah Roetman received a $1,000 scholarship to attend The University of South Dakota presented by Robert Wood at the Vermillion High School Awards Day May 4. Dr. Wood represented the First National Bank in Vermillion, and the South Dakota Bankers Foundation, who provided funding for the scholarship.
In a continuing effort to retain our best and brightest students, participating South Dakota banks have agreed to match Foundation funds in providing scholarships to a graduating high school senior from our local community. The recipient is required to attend a post-secondary South Dakota institution. This is the fifth year for the Foundation's scholarship program with $50,000 in scholarships to be awarded in 2004 alone.
Roetman's high school activities include band, tennis, student council and the National Honor Society. Her faculty nomination noted that she "is a very responsible, reliable person who can be counted on to follow through on her commitments. She is a cooperative member of the community, willing to help others, and thought well of by her peers, teachers, and others."
First National Bank has been a contributing member of the Vermillion community since 1993. They are also sponsors of the Vermillion High School Students of the Month program.
