State Veterans Home announces staff changes Military and Veterans Affairs Secretary Maj. Gen. Michael Gorman has announced that he has named Larry Wilcox of Rapid City as the new superintendent of the Michael J. Fitzmaurice South Dakota Veterans Home in Hot Springs. Randy Meyers was also selected as the director of operations.
"Larry is a strong manager and administrator," said Maj. Gen. Gorman. "He leads by example and gets the job done. He is a Gulf War veteran and has a strong background in medical services and taking care of people."
Wilcox will serve as the chief executive officer of the South Dakota Veterans Home and will work closely with veterans' organizations to ensure South Dakota veterans have the opportunity to receive excellent health care in a nursing and independent healthcare setting.
Wilcox recently retired as a lieutenant colonel after serving 38 years in the South Dakota National Guard. He will replace Gene Eiring and assume duties on May 1.
Randy Meyers, also of Rapid City, began his duties as South Dakota Veterans Home operations director in April and manages the day-to-day operations of nursing care, independent living care, finance and budget, and buildings and grounds maintenance.
Meyers served for 32 years with the South Dakota National Guard and 25 years in the recruiting branch. He retired at the rank of command sergeant major. He served the past year as the command support specialist in the Adjutant General's Office in Rapid City.
