Tanager boys, girls compete in state track competition by Jim Prosser The Tanager boys' and girls' track teams were in Lennox on Friday and Sioux Falls on Saturday, May 29 and 30, participating in the SDHSAA State Track Meet.
The girls placed 11th and the boys took seventh out of the 20 Class A schools participating. The Tanager contingent included about 30 individual tracksters.
The results for entrants in the girls' section were: Anne Carlson � sixth in the long jump and third in the triple jump; Alicia Brown � third in the 200m dash; Katarina Gombocz � sixth in the 3200m run.
The 4×400 relay team finished sixth (Heather Heine, Brittney Babb, Alexa Walker, and Brown); and the sprint medley team of Nicki Nelson, Anne Roche, Walker, and Morgan Brooks came in fourth.
For the boys' section, individual results for Vermillion were: 100m dash � B.J. Campbell, fifth; 200m dash � Ben Oberle fifth; and 400m dash � Oberle was second with a time of 50.95 seconds.
While four relay teams were qualified for state, only two made it to the finish line. The 4x400m team won the event in the time of 3:28.73 (Tyler Brown, Chad Teigen, Chris Teigen, and Ben Oberle) while the sprint medley team comprised of Campbell, Kellen Cusick, Chad Teigen, and Justin Manning came in second (3:49.55).
