Tanager golfers take third at Class A state tourney by Jim Prosser The Lead-Deadwood Goldiggers have dethroned the Tanagers from their perch atop the Class A championship throne.
The State A, 10-team, 54-individual tournament was contested at Lakeview Golf Course in Mitchell, on Monday and Tuesday, May 24-25. The Golddiggers dominated the scoring, winning by 36 strokes over second-place finisher Belle Fourche, and 38 strokes better than the Tanagers who were in third.
Lead-Deadwood had three girls in the top 10 rankings, while Vermillion placed two � Jackie Thomas, 172 for second, and Anna Isaacson, 190 for seventh. Chelsea Gauer was in the 12th spot with a 198, and Sarah Christopherson (222) was in 24th. Completing the Tanager team was Sara Mayer who placed 34th out of the 54 entrants.
The top six individuals are designated "All-State" and include Brittnay Hofer (L/D) medalist at 158, Jackie Thomas (V), Tara Hofer (L/D), Larissa Rantapaa (L/D), Elise In'Tved (BF), and Kristen Mallory (BF). Anna Isaacson just missed the All-State designation.
The team championship trophy was awarded to Lead-Deadwood as the Vermillion Tanagers, the two-time winners, surrendered their top spot. Belle Fourche gained the runner-up trophy, while the Tanagers and West Central received third and fourth place plaques.
