USD finishes 11th in Director's Cup The University of South Dakota Athletics Department was one of seven schools from the North Central Conference to finish in the top 20 of the 2003-04 United States Sports Academy Directors' Cup for the NCAA Division II.
South Dakota was tied with St. Cloud State at 11th with 452.5 points. Grand Valley State University won the cup, the prestigious award presented annually by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics, U.S. Sports Academy and USA Today to the best overall collegiate athletics program in the country.
Aside from South Dakota and St. Cloud, the rest of the NCC lined up as follows: North Dakota, fourth; North Dakota State, eighth; South Dakota State, ninth; Nebraska-Omaha, 16th and Minnesota State, 20th.
