Vermillion Teeners drop doubleheader opener to S.F. West by Jim Prosser The Vermillion Teener baseball team played a doubleheader against Sioux Falls West on Thursday, May 27 at Prentis Park in Vermillion. It was the first Teener game contested since 2002 because last year's season was cancelled due to a shortage of participants. The opening inning of the new season was as inauspicious as it could be.
A single followed by a couple errors, four bases on balls, a couple more singles, another error and two more walks spelled doom for the Vermillion team, as seven runs crossed the plate, leading to a 11-5 first game loss.
Offensive stats for the home team include Paul Hammond � two hits, one run, two RBIs; Tyler Thedorff � one run, one hit; Dan Storm � one hit, one run, two RBIs; Bobby Dykstra and Casey Carlson each scored a run. Hammond was the losing pitcher with relief coming from Jeff Donnelly.
Game two was more competitive with Vermillion losing 8-6 when West scored four runs in the last inning to overcome the home team advantage.
Ryan Gilbertson pitched a complete game giving up eight runs on eight hits while walking six and registering six Ks.

Vermillion � 6 runs, 6 hits, 1 error, 7 LOB
Offensively: Hammond scored three runs; Donnelly scored one; Gilbertson went 1 for 4 with two RBIs; Eric McPherson � 1 for 3, one RBI; Thedorff scored a run; and Storm went 2 for 3, one run, one RBI. C.J. Haakinson drove in a run when he walked with the bases loaded.
The Vermillion teeners have a 0-2 record and played at home on Saturday, June 5 against Elk Point in a doubleheader.
