Wakonda ties for 10th at state meet May 28-29 The Wakonda High Schools boys' track team, led by distance ace Rob Gregoire, tied with Northwestern/Cresbard for 10th place by scoring 20 points at the South Dakota State Track Meet class "B" division, held at Howard Wood Field in Sioux Falls, May 28-29.� Eureka High School was the boy's Class B champion with 74 points.
Wakonda's 3200-meter relay foursome of Eric Skonhovd, Jason Holoch, Gregoire and Nick Skonhovd started things off Friday in record-breaking style by running to a fourth-place finish in this race in a school record time of 8:25.77.� The old record, set in 1974, was 8:30.2.
Later Friday afternoon, Gregoire became a state champion by winning the 3200-meter run in a time of 10:24.9.�Gregoire set a school record in the 3200-meter run at the Howard Wood Relays in early May with an outstanding time of 9:58.40.
Gregoire completed the scoring for Wakonda on Saturday by placing fourth in the 1600-meter run with a time of 4:44.08.�He was edged out of third place by .04 seconds.�
The state meet completed an outstanding season for the Wakonda High School boys' track team. They were led by three seniors:�Holoch, Brett Logue and Skonhovd.� Logue also participated in the state meet in the triple jump.�
