Alex Schaack qualifies for Optimist golf tournament

Alex Schaack qualifies for Optimist golf tournament Fourteen-year-old Alex Schaack qualified for the Optimist International Junior Golf Tournament in Florida by placing second in district competition.

This qualifier was held at the Eagle Trace Golfers Club in Clearwater, MN, on June 20.

Schaack carded an 80 on the challenging Eagle Trace lay out, leaving him four strokes behind the winner. The third place participant shot an 83.

Only the top two place winners in this division qualified for the Florida event. Competitors were from Minnesota, Manitoba, North Dakota and South Dakota.

Schaack also qualified for the PGA Nebraska Sectional held in Lincoln, NE, on June 28-29. He shot an 85 at the Dakota Dunes Country Club on June 22 to win the 13-15 age division and move on to the the Lincoln sectional.

Then at Hillcrest Country Club in Lincoln, Schaack scored an 83-80 for a 163 total over the two days. The winner shot a 147, while Schaack placed 11th out of 20 junior golfers.
