Community club learns of Youth Business Adventure Jeannie Stockland gave an excellent report to the Wakonda Community Club on her recent attendance at the Youth Business Adventure. It was held in Vermillion on the USD campus.
The Community Club has been a sponsor of YBA for many years. It is an organization that brings students who will be seniors in high school together for an intense short week involving the participants to learn many of the aspects of the business world. Jeannie was elected C.E.O. of her group.
Yard of Month
The Yard of the month award for July is to Heritage Manor. The Community Club voted for the Manor at its July 7 meeting.
In making the award, much credit must be given to Charmaine Goodman, housekeeping supervisor, who has done a great deal of work with the flowers. Further, it was noted that the best place to view many of the flowers is from the patio. The covered patio area is a part of the southeast addition to the dining room.
It was also noted that much credit must be given to Ruben Doering who is following in the footsteps of Russ Polley in always doing an excellent job at groundskeeping.
Reports were received from Heritage Manor with thanks expressed to the community for participation in the recent 25th anniversary celebration.
The "reading program" at the new library was noted with appreciation.
Mosquitoes and West Nile were discussed. It is understood that spraying may follow some local testing that is taking place.
Fourth of July
There was considerable discussion on the observance of the Fourth of July or lack thereof. There was not a large appeal for something of size; but rather something small for a small community. Perhaps a late afternoon kiddie parade, a supper in the park and a watermelon feed. A committee was appointed to work on this for 2005.
The club was informed that the 2004-05 athletic schedules are at the printers and should be available for next month's meeting. It was also noted that our tailgate supper will be Sept. 10 before the first home football game for the Wakonda-Irene Eagles.
