Gearman has pair of top 10 finishes at meet Derek Gearman, a freshman on the South Dakota men's track and field team, had a pair of top 10 finishes at the 2004 USA Junior Outdoor Track and Field Championships on June 25-27 at the Frank G. Anderson Track and Field Complex at Texas A&M University in College Station, TX.
Gearman, a native of Lennox, finished tied for fourth in the high jump, going 6'9''. In addition, Gearman captured 10th place in the triple jump with a jump of 48'10.25''. Both performances were a little short of his personal bests, which include a 6'11'' high jump at the Adidas Classic at Lincoln, NE, and a 49'4'' triple jump at the Kansas Relays this spring.
"We are pleased with the performance of Derek Gearman, who proved that he is one of the nation's best young athletes," said track and field coordinator Dave Gottsleben.
The USA Junior Championships primarily included college freshmen and high school student-athletes. The competitors were all under 20 years of age during 2004.
