Legion Post #1 ends regular season with two losses by Jim Prosser Post #1 ended their regular season losing to Elk Point/Jefferson in a pre-region tournament warm-up game played in Prentis Park on Monday, July 12.

Coach Gault wanted to preserve his pitching rotation for the tournament so he called on Zach Weiss to fill the starter's role in the game. He did a commendable job, but became the victim of a superb performance by EP/J's R. Larson who fashioned a five-hit, one-run effort while registering 10 Vermillion Ks.

Line score: EP/J � 12 R, 9 H, 3 E, 10 lob; Vermillion � 1 R, 5 H, 7 E, 7 lob.

Obviously the errors contributed to the visitors' scoring, but Vermillion's offense consisted of five singles and they were never in the game. Brandon Hanson scored the run and had one of the hits.

The next day, the team traveled to Lennox for the final regular season game in a rematch of their Yankton Tournament conflict. Brad Schaack pitched the complete nine-inning game giving up 16 runs on 11 hits, walking six and registering eight Ks, as Post #1 was outscored by Lennox 16-14 in an old fashioned shootout.

The game was close through five innings (5-4) in favor of Post #1. Vermillion scored four runs and Lennox responded with five to tie the score. Post #1 came up with five in the seventh while Lennox scored three, followed by three runs in the eighth which gave them a 16-13 lead. Vermillion loaded the bases in the ninth, scoring one run, but two strike outs ended the marathon.

Campbell scored two and drove in three on 3 for 5 at bats; Eric Chase � 1 for 6, two RBIs; Schaack went 1 for 5, two runs; Chris Chase � 1 for 5, one run; Zach Weiss � 2 for 3, three runs, one RBI; Ryan Mockler � 1 for 4, one run, two RBIs and Jason Donald scored once.

Season record � 10 wins, 17 losses.
