Medicare discount card assistance available Assistance is now available for South Dakotans who are interested in enrolling for the federal Medicare-approved drug discount card program.
South Dakotans who have questions about selecting a card or enrolling in the program can either contact their local pharmacists or call the South Dakota Senior Health Information and Insurance Education (SHIINE) program at 1-800-536-8197.
"There are approximately 30,000 individuals in this state who could qualify for a $600 free annual credit to help pay for their prescriptions," said Gov. Mike Rounds. "These individuals should take advantage of this opportunity."
Individuals eligible for the $600 credit now and again in January are seniors whose annual income is below $12,569 if they are single or $16,862 if they are married.
Card enrollment fees are approximately $30. Following enrollment, individuals must go to a pharmacy listed in their card company's directory to receive the federally predicted 10 to ?25 percent drug discount.
