Mt. Rushmore fireworks garner national spotlight An estimated 18.6 million viewers across the country tuned in as fireworks lit up South Dakota's famous faces at Mount Rushmore National Memorial. The South Dakota Office of Tourism broadcast the July 3 fireworks display at America's Shrine of Democracy live via satellite to media across the country.
"The Mount Rushmore fireworks satellite feed is another tool in the Office of Tourism's marketing toolbox that we use to gain national attention for South Dakota," said Patricia Van Gerpen, director of the South Dakota Office of Tourism. "The feed enables us to reach millions of new potential visitors across the country."
ABC, CNN, CNN Headline News and FOX were among the national media airing the Mount Rushmore fireworks footage.
Downloadable high resolution photos of the Mount Rushmore fireworks were also provided to newspapers across the country at www.MediaSD.com.
2004 marked the sixth year the Office of Tourism broadcast Mount Rushmore's Independence Day Celebration via satellite.
