Nelson celebrates 100th birthday Alma Nelson of the Sioux Valley Vermillion Care Center celebrated a landmark birthday on Sunday, July 18. Although Alma's actual birthday is on July 20, friends and family were on hand to help Alma celebrate her 100th birthday Sunday afternoon.
At Alma's request, all of her favorite party foods were served; angel food cake with ice cream and strawberries, home-baked sugar cookies and hand-made mints.
Friends and family arrived early in the afternoon
from around the state and
Minnesota. Vermillion Mayor
Dan Christopherson presented Alma with birthday wishes and a bouquet of flowers on behalf of the city of Vermillion. With this birthday, Alma became an official lifetime member of the South Dakota Health Care Foundation and KELO Century Club.
In addition to daily visits by friends in the community, Alma enjoys playing bingo at the care center and working the crossword puzzle from the daily newspaper. Alma's advice to others who wish to live long and rewarding life is to keep active.
