Christine J. Thorson, 98, of Yankton, passed away Monday, July 5, 2004 at Avera Sister James Care Center in Yankton.
Christine J. Fisher was born March 6, 1906 at Vermillion, to Jens P. and Anna (Madsen) Fisher. She grew up in the Vermillion area and attended country school near Vermillion.�
She married Carl Thorson in 1930.�In 1946, they moved to the Volin area where she was a homemaker and she and her husband worked with several area farmers. She later moved to Yankton, where she loved to cook and entertain her family and friends. She had been a resident of Sister James Care Center for the past eight years.�
Survivors include two sons, Gordon of Yankton, and Gary of Volin; one daughter, Ruth Adams of Douglass, KS; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; a half-brother, Elmer Rasmussen of Vermillion; and a half-sister, Martha Andrews of Arizona.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two grandchildren, two sisters, Jenny Fisher and Edna Gray, and three half-brothers, Ralph, Hans, and Ted Rasmussen.
Funeral services were 2 p.m. Thursday, July, 8 at Hansen Funeral Home in Irene. Burial followed in Lodi Cemetery, rural Volin.
Visitation was from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 7, at Hansen Funeral Home in Irene.
