Rounds encourages support for marriage amendment Gov. Mike Rounds on July 13 sent a letter to South Dakota Senators Tom Daschle and Tim Johnson asking them to support the Federal Marriage Amendment that is scheduled to come before the Senate this week.
"Marriage is one of the most sacred human institutions. I asked our senators, as many South Dakotans have done, to protect marriage as a union between a man and woman," said Gov. Rounds.
South Dakota Codified Law 25-1-1 defines marriage as a personal relation, between a man and a woman, arising out of a civil contract to which the consent of parties capable of making it is necessary.
