SVVMC is celebrating Therapeutic Rec Week The National Therapeutic Recreation Society (NTRS) announces National Therapeutic Recreation Week, July 11-17.
Sioux Valley Vermillion Medical Center will celebrate the occasion in the local area with several special events held throughout the week for patients, residents and staff.
The observance highlights the importance of leisure and recreation for all people. Therapeutic recreation uses treatment, education, and recreation services to help people with illnesses, disabilities and other conditions to develop and use their leisure in ways that enhance their health, functional abilities, independence, and quality of life.
Therapeutic recreation programs and services are provided in clinical settings such as hospitals, rehabilitation centers, and nursing homes.
Therapeutic recreation agencies in community settings include community park and recreation departments, adult day care centers, independent living centers, schools and community mental health centers.
The purpose of National Therapeutic Recreation Week is to enhance awareness of therapeutic recreation programs and services, and to expand leisure and recreation opportunities for individuals with disabilities in the local community.
