Twirlers qualify for Jr. Olympics Heather Reeves, Jennifer Noiva and Krissy Zalud recently participated in a Regional AAU Championship baton competition and qualified to compete at the 2004 AAU Junior Olympic games in baton twirling.
Reeves, Noiva and Zalud qualified in Solo 1-Baton and Solo 2-Baton in their divisions. In addition, Reeves qualified in Solo 3-Baton, Solo Freestyle and Duet with her twirling partner from Omaha, NE. The games will be held in Des Moines, IA, Aug. 2-7.
Noiva and Zalud are students of Reeves and members of Heather's Highsteppers.
Prior to attending the 2004 AAU Junior Olympics, Reeves will be traveling to South Bend, IN, July 19-26 to compete in the AYOP National Baton Championships at the University of Notre Dame.
In addition to 1-, 2-, and 3-Baton and duet, Reeves will also be competing in Super X-Strut, Flag Baton, Hoop Baton, Solo Rifle and Solo Color Guard as well as All-American Girl Modeling, College Miss Majorette of America and the National Collegiate Twirling and Strutting Championships. Reeves is the feature twirler for The University of South Dakota Marching Coyotes.
To help defer expenses associated with participation in these competitions, Heather's Highsteppers will be holding a rummage sale on Saturday, July 3 at the Vermilion Community Center/National Guard Armory.
