USD employee dies in mowing accident by David Lias A Vermillion man who has worked as a custodian and groundskeeper at The University of South Dakota since 1999 was killed in a lawn mower accident on campus early Thursday afternoon.
Marlon Olson, 57, was working near the DakotaDome when the accident happened, said Kenyon Gleason, USD�s director of communications and media relations.
The accident is being investigated by USD's Department of Public Safety, the Vermillion Police Department and the Clay County Sheriff's Office.
"They are still looking at the exact cause of the accident," Gleason said. "It was a work-related accident near the Dome. I can't tell you exactly what happened, because I don't yet know the exact cause."
Gleason said an autopsy was performed Friday by Clay County Coronor Alton Siecke. The USD Media Relations office hasn't yet received the coronor's report.
Olson's wife, Linda, also has ties to the university. She has been employed as an manager in the business office since 1968, Gleason said.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
