Varns receives scholarships Brian Varns, the son of Ken and Earleen Varns of Vermillion, was awarded scholarships to attend The University of South Dakota this fall where he will major in history.
Varns will receive the Promise and ROTC Scholarships. The Promise Scholarship promises a minimum of $1,000 per year in scholarship assistance, renewable for a total of four years. The ROTC Scholarship promises 100 percent of tuition and fees, $600 per year for books, a monthly stipend, and awarded up to four years.
The Promise Scholarship is available to all first-time freshmen students who attend the Vermillion campus and have an ACT score of at least 24 or SAT score of at least 1100. In order to continue receiving the scholarship, students must average 30 credit hours per year and maintain a GPA of 3.2 or higher.
The ROTC Scholarship is available to students based on their ACT/SAT scores, GPA, leadership/athletic activities and personal interviews.
An excellent student, Varns graduated from Vermillion High School. He was involved in soccer.
