Vermillion Babe Ruth teams face off at Prentis by Jim Prosser The Vermillion Recuerdos and Pump-N-Pak young baseball teams faced each other for the second time this season as they split a doubleheader at Prentis Park on Monday, July 5.

The Bob Westman-coached Pump-N-Pak came up shorthanded and had to use some Teener players on his roster. Drew Lawrence is the coach of Recuerdos whose season record is 3-6 after the day's competition.

In game one, Recuerdos bested Pump-N-Pak 9-5 with Grant Lueders going four innings of three-hit, four-run pitching, also giving up five walks and registering four Ks for the win. J.R. Moore had a one-inning stint in relief, surrendering one run on one hit while walking one and striking out three batters.

Scoring stats: Recuerdos � Tyler Steele, two runs; Jordan Robinson � one run, one rbi; Moore � one run; Matt Nelson 1 for 3 batting, one run, two rbis; Corey Taggert � 2 for 3, two runs; Lueders � 1 for 3, one run, one rbi; Michael VanDyke � one rbi; and Tyler Vlasman � one run.

Line scores: Recuerdos � 9 runs, 4 hits, 3 errors; P-n-P � 5 runs, 4 hits, 0 errors.

P-n-P hitting leaders were: Ryan Husby � 1 for 2, one run, one rbi; Jordan Merrigan � 1 for 2, one run, two rbis; C.J. Haakinson � 1 for 3, one run; and Michael Oberle � 1 for 2, one run. Stuart Enos scored the other run.

Game ywo was a reversal of fortunes as Merrigan pitched a six-hit, four-run complete game, giving up eight walks and registering five K's for the 10-4, P-n-P win.

Moore was the losing pitcher, a victim of eight walks and three key team errors while surrendering only two hits in his four-inning assignment.

Three P-n-P players scored two runs, each � Haakinson, Merrigan, and Ryan Angelo. Husby was 1 for 3 with one run and one rbi; Oberle, Kirkpatrick, and Enos each scored a run without benefit of a hit.

Offense stats for Recuerdos: Moore � 1 for 3, one run; Nelson � 1 for 3, one rbi; Taggert � 1 for 3, one run; VanDyke and Vlasman each scored a run; Mike Morse went 1 for 2; and Matt Morse was credited with an rbi.
