Vermillion included in photo essay Vermillion is among the towns included in Chad Coppess' photo essay titled "Up the River with Lewis and Clark" in the July/August issue of South Dakota Magazine.
Several of Coppess' photographs of Lewis and Clark reenactments were taken along the Missouri River near Vermillion.
On Aug. 22, 1804, Lewis and Clark and the Corps of Discovery passed the mouth of the Big Sioux River and entered what would one day become South Dakota. People from every state and many foreign lands will join South Dakotans this summer, traveling up the river, reliving the historic journey at festivals and reenactments in towns from Elk Point to Pollock.
The magazine feature includes Lewis and Clark events at Elk Point, Yankton, Chamberlain, Pierre/Fort Pierre, Mobridge and Pollock.
