Vermillion out-plays Harrisburg in region baseball tournament by Jim Prosser Vermillion Post #1 came away with a first round win against Harrisburg in the Region 3 Tournament at Elk Point on Saturday, July 17.
Post #1 fell behind 7-4 after five innings before duplicating an early inning four-run output by scoring four runs in the sixth to take the lead 8-7. They then added two more in the seventh. Harrisburg got close with two runs in the top of the eighth inning, but Post #1 blew away any hopes for their opponents when they scored six runs in the bottom of the stanza and came away with the win.

Brad Schaack started for Vermillion in the tourney game. He went six innings being charged with seven runs on nine hits but with six strikeouts. His effort had to contend with five team errors during his tenure.
Jason Donald pitched in relief giving up two runs, four hits, registering five Ks in three innings. Schaack got the win � Donald was credited with the save.
The offense was led by B.J. Campbell who went 4 for 4 and a hit-by-pitch for a five-on-base performance, two runs and two RBIs. He missed a cycle by having a triple, double, and two singles. He could have used Ben Oberle's inside the park home run, which was part of his 2 for 6, three-run, one-RBI output.
Jared Burcham had a triple and two base hit in four at bats, scoring two and driving in three. Eric Chase was 1 for 5 with one run and one rbi. Chris Chase went 1 for 2, three runs, one RBI; Schaack had 1 for 4, three runs, three RBIs; Ryan Mockler drove in two, scored one going 1 for 2; Zach Weiss was credited with two RBIs and Donald scored a run. Vermillion's season record improves to 11-17 going into Sunday's second round game in Elk Point.
