Vermillion Post #1 wins error-ridden game over EP/J by Jim Prosser Jason Donald overcame the flock of errors by his team to win for Post #1 in the second round game of the Region 3B tournament played in Elk Point Sunday, July 18.
It wasn't pretty as EP/J had accumulated three unearned runs before taking an 8-3 lead after four innings. Errors (one each in the first two innings and three in the third) all contributed to the deficit. Once the error tendency was halted, the Vermillion offense got organized and the bottom of the batting order produced five runs in the fifth and sixth to pull within a run 8-9. Vermillion then took the lead in the seventh with two runs, while EP/J took a momentary 11-10 lead midway through the eighth.
That's when all the members of Vermillion's roster came through with a five-run surge to take an expected five-run advantage after eight innings. "Not so fast!" exclaimed the Elk Point hopefuls, as they scored two runs before a ground out ended the marathon conflict.
Line score: Vermillion 15 R, 14 H, 8 E, 9 lob; EP/J 12 R, 13 H, 3 E, 10 lob.
