Vermillion team finishes league play In the Sioux City 13-14 year old Junior League, Vermillion finished league play in second place with a 13-5 record. Vermillion's squad was made up of all 13 year olds.
Going into the season we hoped that we would be able to be competitive with the teams, as most had a couple of players per team that were playing junior varsity ball for their high school.
With good pitching, solid defense and timely hitting we exceeded our early season goals. The final game of league play found us tied for first with Prestige of Sioux City. It would be the third meeting with Prestige winning game one 4-3, and Vermillion winning the second meeting by a 9-3 score.
The final game saw several lead changes and came down to the final at bats. Vermillion tied the game up in the top of the seventh and had to go ahead run thrown out at the plate. In the bottom half of the inning Prestige was able to get one run across for a 11-10 win.
Upcoming games for Vermillion are tournaments in Yankton and Norfolk and also a doubleheader with the Yankton Teeners.
Pipestone, MN Tourney 3-1
Vermillion dropped its opening game in the tourney to the eventual champions Sioux City Saders. Vermillion defeated Pipestone 7-1 and then downed Luverne 10-2.
Their final game in the tourney found them playing Pipestone for the second time and Vermillion came out on top 6-5.
Season record 16-6.
