Vermillion Teeners split doubleheader vs. Wagner by Jim Prosser The Teener baseball team played a doubleheader against Wagner on Thursday, July 8, at Prentis Park in Vermillion.

The first game was a close 5-3 advantage for Vermillion going into the fourth inning, but the visitors came up with a seven-run outburst in the inning and went on to demolish the home team 16-6 in five innings.

Bobby Dykstra started and went three-plus innings, giving up five runs on five hits. Ryan Husby relieved, but was the losing pitcher as Wagner continued the avalanche scoring 11 runs on nine hits.

Offensive stats for the home team include: Tyler Thedorff � 2 for 3, two runs; Jeff Donnelly � 1 for 2, one run, one rbi; Lyndon Sams � 1 for 2, one run, one rbi; Eric McPherson � 1 for 3, one run; Jordan Merrigan � 1 for 3, one run.

Game two was a different matter, as Sam Laprath pitched a steady five innings, giving up two runs on six hits while registering five Ks in the 6-2 contest with Vermillion on the winning side.

Line score: Vermillion � 6 R, 11 H, 1 E, 4 LOB; Wagner � 2 R, 6 H, 0 E, 6 LOB.

Offensively: Ryan Gilbertson went 3 for 3, scoring one run; Laprath was 2 for 2 with two runs scored; McPherson scored one with 1 for 3 batting and one rbi; Nick Rasmussen � 1 for 2, one run; Dan Storm scored once with an rbi using 1 for 3 at bats; Donnelly went 1 for 4 with one rbi.
