Vermillion’s Legion team suffers third round loss

Vermillion's Legion team suffers third round loss by Jim Prosser This time it was impossible to overcome the flock of errors (eight of them) by the Post #1 team as Irene took advantage to score four unearned runs in a 12-4 win in the third round game of the Region 3B tournament in Elk Point Monday, July 19.

Line score: Vermillion 4 R, 8 H, 8 E, 10 lob; Irene 12 R, 10 H, 5 E, 6 lob.

Ben Oberle started and went 2 1/3 innings, giving up four runs, four hits and striking out five batters. Eric Chase took the reliever role and was charged with eight runs (four earned), six hits, striking out five.

It seemed that every first or second batter for Irene got on base by errors in each inning. Maybe not, but the psyche of the team was affected and never could mount a creditable offense. Oberle took the loss.
