Bryan will play basketball for USD South Dakota women's basketball head coach Chad Lavin has announced that Janielle Bryan of Bellevue, NE, has signed to play for the Coyotes this fall.
"Janielle Bryan is an outstanding young woman, who has excelled on and off the court of play," said Lavin. "Janielle comes to our program as one of the best players in Nebraska last year. She finished second in Class A in rebounding and helped lead her team to a second place finish at the state tournament. She will be a great addition for our program."
Bryan, a 5'11'' forward, starred at Bellevue East, where she averaged 13.2 points, 10.7 rebounds and 2.1 blocks per game during the 2003-04 season. Bryan hit 45 percent from the field and 65 percent from the free throw line. She was named the Bellevue Leader 2004 Player of the Year, Nebraska All Stars MVP, Gatorade Player of the Year, academic all-state and to the All-State Super State Third Team.
Bryan helped lead her team to the Metro Conference Championship, the District A-5 Title and a second-place finish at the State Class A Tournament in Nebraska.
Bryan was the captain for both the girls' basketball and volleyball teams at Bellevue East and was on the Principal's Advisory Council. Named the Outstanding Female Scholar Athlete (Greater Omaha Sports and Convention and Visitors Bureau Committees), she is a member of the National Honor Society, National Honor Roll and recipient of a U.S. Achievement Academy Award.
A year ago, the South Dakota women's basketball team finished 25-8, advanced to the national playoffs for the second consecutive season, and finished the season ranked 16th in NCAA Division II.
