Full agenda planned for Community Club A number of items on the agenda for the August meeting of the Wakonda Community Club indicates a busy time this fall for members.
With school starting about three weeks away it was time to be looking to "soon to be coming" events. In the immediate future, of course, was the upcoming Cornstock in the Park, scheduled for Aug. 7, which will be history by the time this is published.
The tailgate supper for the first home football game, sponsored by the Community Club, is scheduled for Sept. 10. Santa's Shack is scheduled for Oct. 17.
Donna Henriksen reports that she is already getting inquiries relative to the event. There will be more information relative to the possibility of the pillow cleaners who may be coming.
Wakonda Heritage Manor's new administrator, Becky McManus, was introduced to those present and she in turn introduced Shawna Stroman, the new director of nursing. McManus will be managing both Heritage Manor and Sunset Manor in Irene.
Tony Ericson of Avera Sacred Heart, who is the immediate supervisor of the management contracts with the two facilities, spoke positively of the working arrangements.
Superintendent Larry Johnke talked about the opening of school and the stable condition off enrollment. He spoke of the relatively good job that is being done by schools in this area and the government reports soon to be released will indicate that the Wakonda school will rank very well.
Sheriff Andy Howe gave an interesting report of the recent disaster drill held at the DakotaDome in Vermillion. The Wakonda Fire Department was involved in the drill.
Blood Donor Day will be held this fall in conjunction with Santa Appreciation Day in December.
a farewell reception for Pastor Elizabeth Johnson will be held on Aug. 23.
