Silage production seminar planned The South 2 Extension Agronomy and Livestock Educators are hosting an informational meeting for area livestock producers on Friday, Aug. 20 in Viborg. A silage production seminar will feature the expertise of Peter Jeranyama, SDSU Extension forage crop specialist. The seminar will be held at the Viborg Community Center starting at 1:30 p.m.

Subject matter covered during the afternoon meeting will include information on proper silage harvest methods and management considerations such as preservatives and innoculants, moisture content, adding water, packing, covering and the advantages and disadvantages of various storage types and facilities. Other information will include the feed value of silage in rations and placing a value on a standing field of forage prior to harvesst. Other presenters will include Jeff Lounsbery, livestock educator/Lincoln County and Steve Sutera, agronomy educator/Bon Homme County. The meeting will conclude at approximately 3:30 p.m.

This event is open to anyone that is interested in attending. Tune up your silage production knowledge prior to harvest. For more information call the Lincoln County Extension Office at 764-2756.
