VHS boys' golf season opens with earlybird invitational by Jim Prosser With a short pre-season practice time, and facing a group of serious contenders for state honors, the VHS boys' golf team entered the West Central Invitational at Central Valley GC in Hartford on Tuesday, Aug. 17.
The 18-hole tournament involved 75 high school golfers on seven varsity and JV teams from diverse locations in South Dakota.
Final team standings were: 1. Milbank (317), 2.Madison (318), 3.Vermillion (325), 4. Aberdeen Central (335), 5. West Central (359), 6. Lennox (370), 7. Sisseton (380).
Scores for Vermillion individuals were: Broc Gauer � 79 (fifth), Brad Schaack � 80 (seventh), Ryan Powell � 83 (11th), Charles Odson � 83 (13th) and Alex Schaack � 83 (14th).
The JV team tied with Madison for first in their division with a score of 361. Individual scores were: Chris Moen � 84 (medalist), Mikal Ustad � 90, Eric Ustad � 93, Jordan Boots � 94, and Aaron Steele � 95.
